VCU’s parking deck needed to achieve two main goals. First, it had to maintain the integrity of the historic residential and business neighborhood where it was located and not negatively impact its neighbors which were in close proximity to the site. Plus, it would need to provide supplemental public parking for the city’s cultural arts center, as well as other nearby businesses. So, the deck not only needed to offer a secure and solid design but also needed to be attractive.
The final design is a blend of beauty and functionality. Not only did Baskervill provide VCU with the multi-level, 725-vehicle capacity parking structure that it required, but they also gave the university an additional benefit – an attractive structure that serves as the western gateway to VCU’s academic campus.
