The Shockoe Project Named Architizer Vision Award Winner

Baskervill is proud to announce that The Shockoe Project has been selected by Architizer as the Editor’s Choice Award winner in the “Vision for Public Space” category of the 2025 Architizer Vision Awards.

With submissions from over 50 countries, the Architizer Vision Awards celebrate the most forward-thinking concepts shaping the future of the built environment. Unlike traditional design competitions that recognize completed buildings, the Vision Awards focuses on the power of representation—celebrating the trailblazing ideas that influence not just what gets built, but how communities imagine their future.

Winning the Editor’s Choice Award means the Shockoe Project stood out among hundreds of global entries as one of the most visionary public space designs in the world. Chosen by an international jury of distinguished architects, designers, and visual storytellers, the recognition affirms the project’s role in advancing architecture as a tool for truth-telling and collective memory.

The Shockoe Project

A cultural destination aimed at illuminating Afrocentric histories long silenced.

“Our team is humbled to see a global spotlight on the Shockoe Project in the form of the Architizer Vision Awards. This work has always held Richmond at its heart—honoring voices too often left out of its story. And to know that the community’s collective vision resonates beyond this city reinforces the universal importance of memory, justice, and the spaces we create to hold them.”
