John Michael Currie, FAIA

John Currie believes that some of the most important milestones in a person’s life happen in healthcare facilities, and it’s up to designers to create comforting spaces that promote healing.

With 40 years of experience in healthcare facility planning, programming, and design, John is responsible for over 200 facilities across the world. His work spans community hospitals, academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, and cancer care facilities, among others. Consistently ranked among the leading experts in the nation on healthcare design and patient safety, John is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a guest lecturer at Clemson University, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Kansas and has been a featured speaker at DesignDC, Architecture Exchange East, AIA SC, and VSHE. While there’s no way to prove he owns the largest collection of books on healthcare architecture, his personal stockpile does take up his entire basement.
