With property after property cropping up in the area, the Westin Virginia Beach was eager for a strong juxtaposition between its ocean-side roots and its ever-developing urban surroundings. Tasked with refreshing the 15-story hotel’s 236 guestrooms, lobby, meeting spaces, and fitness studio—our interior design team considered how to best curate a truly unique identity and character throughout the property without compromising on the operational tenets and elements guests have come to enjoy and rely upon. The end result is a sophisticated deconstruction of all the raw ingredients that make for an unforgettable day at the beach. Sun-splashed pops of yellow and cool blue tones layer with warm grays and organic patterns in the lobby, where you’ll find an expressive and show-stopping focal wall and water features that are framed with bright woods and sandy-toned tiles. In the guest rooms, muted blues and dusky purples create a comforting environment for all types of unwinding (a much-needed rest, or an equally needed in-room workout). The live-edge desk and exaggerated form of the sofa resembling the curvature of a conch shell are some of our favorite subtle nods to the sea.
