Responding to rapid growth since the completion of their headquarters building in 2020, Kinsale Capital Group collaborated with Baskervill to expand their corporate campus in Richmond’s West End. The resulting Class-A office building transforms a 1960s-era structure into a high-performing workplace—stripping it back, opening it up, and rebuilding it to support how Kinsale operates today and into the future.

A sleek, glass façade replaces the original concrete envelope, exposing the interior to daylight and sweeping views. At the ground level, the double-height lobby is a completely new addition to the building and sets a calm and welcoming tone with a highly curated material palette and an angular two-toned reception desk.

A multi-story communicating stair forms the building’s social spine, linking four levels of workspace. Glass guardrails, wood soffits, and integrated lighting heighten its grand presence, while a deep blue glossy backdrop anchors it. The stair is positioned to remain sun-soaked throughout the workday, turning circulation from meetings into an energizing, shared experience and reinforcing a culture where visibility and connection matter.

Throughout the building, floorplates are organized to support both focus and flexibility for 900 employees. Open workstations line the perimeter to democratize the exterior views, maximize access to daylight, while conference rooms, training spaces, and shared amenities are strategically distributed to create a steady cadence of collaboration across each level.

The project is integral to Kinsale’s 29-acre masterplan, which aims to establish a walkable, quasi-urban campus that seamlessly integrates workplace and residential mixed-use buildings.
