Liberty University’s new Reber-Thomas Dining Center is a new 120,000 SF state-of-the-art servery and dining space that can seat up to 2,700 students. This facility is the only dining facility on campus and serves the full student population at each meal service. To house this number of students in one facility, roughly the size of three footballs fields, the building was broken down into human-scale proportions, reflecting the campus architectural vernacular. The main level is predominantly open seating surrounding 28 food service stations and supported by a prep-kitchen and dishwasher room. The lower level includes the University’s catering facility, Bakery (including a gluten free-bakery), Cold and Dry Storage, and a 5-bay, covered loading dock. There is also a private dining room and additional open seating for students to enjoy. The signature space is “The Great Hall”, which is a light-filled dining space on the primary level with cathedral ceilings that connects to the lower level with a grand, bifurcating stair. The exterior design echoes the materials used throughout campus and includes a sweeping canopy for alfresco dining.
