As part of a competitive development process, Baskervill designed a conceptual master plan to reimagine the Diamond District – an up-and-coming Richmond, Virginia neighborhood. The goal was to craft a plan to catalyze economic growth, culture, art, jobs, and housing. Envisioned as a vibrant, resilient, and trend-setting gateway into the city, the Diamond District will be anchored by the forthcoming multi-purpose baseball stadium — taking cues from the area’s legacy of sports and entertainment. The masterplan also takes inspiration from Richmond’s signature community feel and translates the beloved authenticity into an accessible space influenced by historic charm and engineered for the future.
Local art and greenery-filled parks and plazas are bookended by one-of-a-kind architecture intended to attract residents and guests alike. A comprehensive activation strategy for these public spaces will enliven the neighborhood and create synergy with adjacent retail and residences. Baskervill took the opportunity the Diamond District presents to define a new design vernacular for the city and blends entertainment, residential, hospitality, office, retail, and public spaces to create a neighborhood that is multi-modal, mixed-use, and entirely unique.
