Nonprofit Design That Delivers

Doing a lot with a little.

That’s the heart of our work with nonprofits.

Nonprofit organizations operate with distinct purpose, and their spaces should reflect that. Whether transforming an underutilized building into a community hub or designing a dynamic office that supports essential services, we focus on making every square foot count, no matter the budget. Expert architects, interior designers, and MEP engineers across our many diverse studios are committed to helping craft experiences that elevate company missions while respecting the relevant constraints.

And it’s a commitment that lasts. Many of our partnerships with nonprofit organizations span 10 years or more—some stretching across multiple decades, and one continuing strong after more than a century—proof that highly-considered, mission-minded design can stand the test of time.

Feed More

Feed More Workplace Non Profit Design | Baskervill

Designed from the ground up to meet the ever-evolving needs of Central Virginia neighbors experiencing food insecurity, Feed More’s new headquarters draws on expertise from Baskervill’s Workplace and Manufacturing + Logistics studios and comprehensive research to optimize operations.

The Virginia Home

Since 1894, Baskervill has partnered with the Virginia Home to support its mission—most recently to design a new 190,000-square-foot facility that expands capacity by 20% and prioritizes resilience, accessibility, and community for residents with irreversible physical disabilities.

The Faison Center

Equipped with a deep understanding of the specific needs of students with autism spectrum disorder and the faculty that supports them, Baskervill worked directly with the Faison Center to design a collection of five distinct buildings geared specifically to support people with ASD through all phases of life.

ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation

Drenched in a bright color palette and decorated with fun, functional furniture, the 5,000-square-foot center for ASK provides a range of amenities to support children with cancer and their families.

Veteran’s Village

Veterans Village Multi family deisgn | baskervill

Dedicated to their mission of restoring independence to veterans experiencing homelessness, Liberation Veteran Services teamed up with Baskervill to envision a 33,000-square-foot campus for our nation’s heroes, complete with 70 units, a common area, and outdoor gardens.

Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia

Baskervill and Madge Bemiss Architects transformed the 1895 Leigh Street Armory into an interpretive Black History Museum experience that blends history with modern storytelling. The renovation added 5,500-square-feet for entry, support, galleries, community spaces, and collections storage.

Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital Campus

A testament to community-driven placemaking, the comprehensive healthcare campus connects the Richmond Community Hospital, East End Behavioral Health Building, and Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Living into a single, cohesive environment interwoven with shaded sidewalks, courtyards featuring locally inspired art, and ample parking.

The Planet Apartments

Working with Better Housing Coalition, Baskervill designed an affordable housing haven featuring 67 units in a three-story building, with a third-floor roof garden and community spaces on the first two floors. The development was thoughtfully considered to strengthen connections and deepen engagement in the community.

JXN Haus

JXN Haus JXN Project | Baskervill

A key initiative of the JXN Project, JXN Haus will revive the 1793 homestead of Jackson Ward’s first Black homeowner, breathing new life into this historic landmark. Through careful restoration, the project will honor the home’s legacy while creating a space for community engagement, education, and cultural preservation.

And there’s more on the horizon: new projects, new challenges, and new opportunities to prove that great design isn’t about how much you have, but how well you use it. As we look forward, we’re excited to collaborate with more mission-driven organizations such as Children’s Home Society of Virginia, Autism Society of Central Virginia, and many more—shaping environments that serve their communities in meaningful ways for generations to come.
