Leadership Transition Reinforces Baskervill’s Roofing Expertise

Good design starts at the top—literally. In the modern built environment, where durability, safety, and performance are non-negotiables, few components are more critical than the roof. From leak investigations to long-term maintenance strategies, our specialized expertise in roofing helps institutions across the East Coast protect their investments and create learning spaces that last.

Leadership Transition Reinforces Baskervill’s Roofing Expertise

For more than 25 years, that impact has been led by Zander Agnew, whose technical knowledge and strategic thinking have shaped hundreds of projects across the firm—from higher education projects at major universities such as UVA, VCU, and VMI to healthcare and corporate spaces. Fully integrated into our Studios, Zander’s ability to assess complex issues and design practical, lasting solutions has become a key part of how we serve our clients.

“Roofing is a complete system that affects the entire lifespan and performance of a building,” says Ashley Jones, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Principal in Baskervill’s Education Studio. “Having that expertise in-house means we can offer smarter, more proactive solutions for our clients. Zander’s contributions have elevated the way we work and set a strong standard for what’s to come!”

From condition assessments and forensic studies to roof design for new buildings and complex renovations, the roofing team’s approach is rooted in big-picture thinking. As we celebrate Zander’s retirement this month, that legacy of problem-solving continues with David Rowley, who will now lead the firm’s roofing efforts. With a strong background in diagnostics and a collaborative mindset, David brings fresh energy to an established service.

“I’m focused on continuing what Zander has created—a practice grounded in collaboration and real-world solutions,” says David. “Roofing issues can be disruptive, but they don’t have to be inevitable. I’m excited to help our clients get ahead of the problem in a way that supports long-term performance.”

For Zander, that continuity is exactly the point. “My goal has always been to help people feel confident in their buildings,” he says. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that work will continue with David and the team.”
