Design Debrief: Salone at BD|NY

Salone Baskervill BDNY

The Ask

The exhibits at BD|NY aren’t your typical trade show displays—they’re immersive experiences expertly designed to captivate. Each booth holder integrates next-level creativity and intention into their spaces, transforming standard stalls into extraordinary visuals. So, when Baskervill set out to design a booth for the yearly conference, we knew we had to curate a destination that stood out against the noise. Our vision went beyond a simple showcase; we aimed to craft an environment that invited curiosity, where like-minded designers, innovators, and industry leaders could gather and engage in meaningful dialogue. It was about curating a space that sparked a lasting impression that felt authentically Baskervill

The Answer

Think beyond your average party; Baskervill’s booth, entitled Salone, was an invitation to a modern renaissance of the 15th century. The space was bold, immersive, intimate (and a little sexy). Not over-adorned or busy, Salone was curated as a sculptural, evocative background to modern conversation where each corner serves as a stage for shared experiences. In a world dominated by digital interactions, Salone resolved to return to something tangible and meaningful—a space where in-person dialogue thrives.

The Attributes

The design team collaborated with specialized vendors to conjure a symbiosis of architecture and interiors. Inspired by the familiar comforts of a bar, living room, and library, the layout integrated purposeful zones to accommodate everything from intimate chats to large panel discussions, including the five sessions hosted within the booth.

Seating and tables were arranged for function and impact, while casegoodsdesigned to mimic structural elements such as columns and archwaysdefined the space and guided flow. The result was a cozy oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the expo.

Bespoke details added warmth and whimsy, a sharp contrast to the cold, fluorescent-lit expo hall. Designed to make the booth feel alive, florals softened the space with organic charm while intricate, hand-painted wall molding added layers of energy. Playfully reimagined Italian-inspired sculptures added a modern edge, transforming the space into a theatrical backdrop. Every custom element drew visitors in and offered a new experience with every visit.

The show-stopping centerpiece of the booth was a reimagined chandelier that brought the essence of a domed Italian ceiling to a ceiling-less expo stall. Custom-designed with over 750 unevenly layered crystal strands, it defied traditional expectations with playfulness. At the heart of the 1,100 pound structure, a six-foot centerpiece showcased an Italian-inspired visual with a modern twist.
