Celebrating Women in Design

Women's History Month | Baskervill

This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the inspiring women of Baskervill, who empower ideas, connect people, and amplify diverse voices in their work day in and day out. We’re proud to share some of the unique journeys of women in design. Though different, each tells a shared tale of passion, commitment, and curiosity – a roadmap for future generations.

Patricia Lopez, CID, NCIDQ, LEED AP
Principal

“Growing up, I loved anything creative that involved a theme, concept, or thinking outside the box. I remember creating concepts for music class — now we’re creating concepts for hotels! I’m proud to be a Latina in design and hope to inspire women by forging my own path doing what I love.”

Catherine Hendrick, AIA
Architect

“When I was a kid my parents would drive around town and I would tell them that buildings and green spaces should be more organized. I wanted to be part of that planning. Not long after, I discovered I wanted to be an architect. My uncle was a custom homebuilder and would show me plans and invite me to tour homes as they were built. In high school, I participated in the Baskervill sponsored ‘Explore Design’ program where I met designers who inspired and mentored me.”

Katy Ashford, CID, NCIDQ, MFA, ASID
Interior Designer

“I fell in love with design at a young age. I knew I wanted to be an interior designer when I was 10. When my university didn’t have an interior design program, I wrote one, proposed it to the school for approval, and graduated with the first and only design degree to come out of the fine arts program!”

Adrienne Scribner, CID, ASID
Principal

“I was always crafting something in my free time as a child, so I knew I wanted a career with a creative outlet. If I could talk to my younger self, I’d say ‘slow down!’ I knew I wanted a career in design and forgot to slow down, absorb every opportunity, and enjoy it. I should have taken more opportunities to broaden my journey.”

Anna Rusecka
Project Designer

Women's History Month | Baskervill

“Early on I wanted to be a doctor like my mom but quickly dove into the art world as I grew up. As I began going to school in Poland and the U.S., I fell more and more in love with the design process. My advice to anyone getting started would be to never doubt yourself and don’t be afraid of the challenge.”
