Accounting Manager

Baskervill is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary design firm with offices throughout the country and in Gdansk, Poland. Our Richmond office is currently looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to develop accounting policies and oversee all financial procedures of our company. As an Accounting Manager, you’ll manage accounting transactions, monitor the company’s financial status, and review quarterly and annual budgets. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of Project Accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with risk management. Ultimately, you’ll make sure we comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits and mitigate risks.

What you’ll be doing:

• Payroll – process payroll on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring pay is processed timely, accurately and in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
• Cashflow – Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels
• Cashflow – check balance for AP, ACH, expense check runs – simplified cash flow report
• Cashflow – Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations
• AP – Receive and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures
• AP – subscriptions and auto payments (for insurance, etc.)
• AP/Banking – Ensure all payments are completed on time (including accounts payable and bank account transfers to assure sufficient funds for debits, ex. Payroll)
• AP/Banking – PosPay upload for all check runs (protection for identity theft)
• General Ledger – monthly journal entries and review of transaction classifications, including review posting logs for any failed transactions
• Accounting software – open/close new month and year; run and clear Rev Gen, run overhead allocation for accuracy of project reporting
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems
• Control and Audit – Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies; reports significant budget differences to management
• Control and Audit – Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes. Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit. Review and assure 1099 submissions
• Control and Audit – Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards; ; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

Here’s what you need:

• BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance
• 10+ years of accounting experience, professional services firm experience preferred
• Work experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager or similar role
• Thorough knowledge of project accounting principles, procedures and legislation
• Hands-on experience with general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions
• Experience with cash management and risk assessment
• Good knowledge of accounting software; Deltek, Paylocity experience preferred
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work with tight deadlines
• CPA or CMA preferred
